SENIOR INDEPENDENT PROJECT

Music has always been a deep passion of mine, but it wasn’t until I came to college and began exploring design within the music world that I realized I could blend these passions into a career path.

For this project, I stepped into the role of an art and creative director, crafting visual concepts inspired by lyrical interpretations of three songs from Sabrina Carpenter’s hit album Short n’ Sweet. Each concept was brought to life through my work in set design, styling, photography, editing, and overall creative execution!

FINAL DELIVERABLES

PROCESS

Most times, when listening to an album, we allow pop culture and design/branding/style choices presented from the artist and their team to guide our visualizations of the music. With this project, I chose songs without preexisting media/campaigns and fully created concepts and deliverables based on my interpretations with nods toward classic Sabrina motifs:

REFLECTION

While conducting my Senior Independent Project, I was ultimately successful in accomplishing my goal of taking on the role of a creative director and successfully creating concept deliverables for Sabrina Carpenter’s album “Short n’ Sweet”.

Throughout the process, there were a few difficulties I faces, but I would not say they hindered the final results. One challenge I had was deciding on whether three shoots would be enough to produce a series of quality deliverables, or if I should make the effort to include the fourth as I had planned in the beginning. I ultimately think I made the right decision as I was able to spend more time towards the designs themselves and focus less on fitting in the last shoot.

Another struggle was ensuring the designs and shoots were cohesive in aesthetics and design, yet still displayed their own individual, distinctive vibes. In the future, as I intend to go into the creative side of the music industry, I intend to use the same planning strategies as having everything laid out in advance before starting to shoot made the post-production process much easier. For example, making mood boards for the photoshoots and the designs so I knew exactly what sets, styling, poses, and design aesthetics to work with when the time came. With this being said, not everything is going to go exactly to plan so it is important to continue to not fall apart just because the original plans are strayed away from a bit. When it comes to what I would do differently, I would have liked to experiment more with actual printing and using more specific mockups in the future.

Overall, this was definitely my favorite project of my college experience. Being able to have complete freedom over a project and carry an idea into a final deliverable was very rewarding.
